Ringworm
Snake Church
(Relapse)
Let me start by saying the cover art for the new Ringworm is extremely good, even if a bit cliché. We have a sorceress with a snake wrapped around her neck, and ravens or crows (I can’t freakin’ tell) perched on her shoulders. The woman is somewhere in the woods, it’s night, and her eyes are bleeding. The new Ringworm makes me feel like my face is bleeding, so that makes sense, and I would totally conjure the old spirits to this shit.
Relapse has a gold mine of heavy necro music, and Ringworm is surely an exceptional part of their master level collection. Purely thrash fused hardcore discharged into the ancient rites of primal pagan savagery; I can think of no better way to describe Ringworm, but let the band speak for itself.
Hammer of The Witch was so crushing. The venomous Relapse debut was supercharged by the title track, which stomped a mudhole in everyone’s ass throughout the entire metal community, and blew up the band’s career into the status of new cult underground champions; however, there is not much new about this band. Ringworm have been reaching their hands for the throat for more than two decades.
Snake Church binds to Slayer worship riffs and hardcore driven rhythms, and utterly wrecks you while doing it. The Human Furnace’s vocals are like a scorching hot iron dragging itself along a ton of naked dead bodies. Wherever you are going, play this music if hard times are coming your way. The guitars sound downright evil, and absolutely frantic throughout the whole album. Everything hits right where it hurts on Snake Church.
