Album Review: September Girls – “Veneer”

September Girls
Veneer
(Kanine)

Noisey-pop from Ireland, these 5 women get a little rougher on this EP, bringing post-punk and plenty of reverb into their esteemed lo-fi, ’60s girl group sound. Vocals are highlighted more this time around, and sung by multiple members, and beneath the hazy fuzz is a wealth of melody despite it being a much darker release. It’s been a strong year for these ladies with a well received LP at the onset of 2014. They close the year showing us a different side of their craft, and an equally compelling angle. (Tom Haugen)
