Album Review: Sodom – ‘Decision Day’

Sodom
Decision Day
(SPV/Steamhammer)

A lot of older bands now release albums that don’t really have the spark anymore to get you a good kick in the teeth with some fantastic thrash metal.

Sodom isn’t one of those older bands.  An album that has been branded with Sodom promises that everything will be good, heavy, ruthless, and extremely fun thrash. There are hooks everywhere, and choruses that you will know every word to and shout along with by the end of each track. Have you ever doubted the power of a Sodom riff? You haven’t if you’ve heard one.

Now there is only one Tom Angelripper. He plays the bass like an aerial bomber dropping payloads. Decision Day will rock you back and forth along with every single screeching Angelripper lyric. “Who Is God?” he asks? I don’t know, but I would like to vote for Tom to get the gig.  Drummer Markus “Makka” Freiwald is the rolling thunder behind this album. He has the energy of a werewolf, and the timing of a machine. As Bernd “Bernemann” Kost shreds bullets across the battlefield, Markus lines up behind him with the heavy artillery. Bernemann’s guitar solos are wicked, integral, and fused with a scalpel.  This three piece squad has marched their way back up the mountain of extreme metal, and reclaimed their place on the peak.

Everyone prepare for Decision Day.
