Album Review: Venom Prison – ‘Animus’

Venom Prison - Animus

Animus definitely didn’t leave me with many impressions. I guess the drummer is pretty solid, and Venom Prison certainly have some moments where I’m into it, including the guitar work here and there. However, I’m not sure that there is anything in the album’s ten tracks which make me think we might be onto something here.

Okay, death metal can be brutal, groovy, and technical. Venom Prison know that, and they’re flying with that kite, but I don’t really feel the focus behind this one. It’s just another run of the mill album that chugs into a frenzy and goes nowhere.

I get that they’re socially evocative. Cool. It’s 2016. Who isn’t? Am I even able to say that I do not dig the lead singer without triggering a Twitter horde to sling poo at me? I’m not feeling it at all.

Purchase the album here.
