William Ryan Fritch
Revisionist
(Lost Tribe)
Fritch covers a lot of ground here, injecting an abstract and classical twist to the standard indie-folk template. Occasionally taking help on vocals from Esme Patterson, the most bare, minimalist side of the spectrum is covered just as much as the busiest, richest sounds, and while it’s packed with plenty of ballads, they never unfold in the traditional way you’d expect. Orchestral, baroque and majestic, this album takes multiple listens to really absorb, and even then there’s a whole lot of beauty and mystery to be found. (Tom Haugen)
