Album Review: All Time Low – Everyone’s Talking

All Time Low
RATING:
Rated 5 out of 5

“Everyone’s Talking”—Are you listening? Everyone’s Talking is the tenth full length album in All Time Low’s discography. With that much music out, I’m pleasantly surprised at how easily it comes for All Time Low to change with the times. Every record they deliver has a different flavor to add to their own table. Everyone’s Talking is no different. Something that still sounds fresh is apparent on every track.

The record starts out with “Cold Open” which is exactly what it sounds like—stripped back vocals and a man with his guitar. Straight after their short introduction, the listener is catapulted into the title track, which I can tell will be an excellent song to bring to their live show.

My favorite part of any All Time Low record truly is how unique the production is. Two songs can have entirely different themes with a wide variety of musical tones, but there are small pieces of the production that marry the sounds together. The band have worked with Dan Swank in the writing room for years now, and his expertise shines through here.

When reading through the track list, I was especially curious about “Tread Water,” which features Ruston Kelly. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a country feel coming to a song, especially when the singles released for this record fell back into a very pop-punk feel. I was pleasantly surprised! The song fit nicely into the surrounding tracks while simultaneously feeling true to both artists featured. There is one other feature track titled “Sugar,” which showcases JoJo’s vocals throughout. Although “Sugar” leans into the band’s pop strengths, I found that both tracks added a taste of something sweet to the overall theme.

One of my favorite parts of this record was the group’s intentional references to current-day media. In “The Weather” the listener is following a character who “crashed out” over losing their ex. “Oh No!” references touching grass as a way to cope through difficult times. Some may argue that this would affect the timelessness of the art, but I think it will add a nice level of nostalgia to the listening experience in a decade when fans return to Everyone’s Talking.

Whether you’re hearing about them for the first time or you occasionally spin Nothing Personal when you’re feeling nostalgic for early 2000’s pop-punk, I think there’s something for everyone in Everyone’s Talking. Fans can appreciate the moments of fun, moments that beg for reflection, and anthems to become part of your daily listening.

If you’re interested in hearing these fresh tracks live, All Time Low are currently on tour with The Paradox, The Cab, and Mayday Parade. The U.S. leg of the tour has already started and will last until late November. After a short break for the holidays, the tour will hit Europe and the U.K. to celebrate the release of Everyone’s Talking
