Album Review: 18th & Addison – ‘Makeshift Monster’

18th & Addison
Makeshift Monster
(Self-Release)

Hailing from New Jersey, 18th & Addison was formed in 2013 when Tom Kunzman and Kait DiBenedetto’s bands broke up. While the two were members of some pretty badass bands (Kunzman from the punk band, A Criminal Risk; Kait from Just Kait and What’s Eating Gilbert), it’s really a blessing that these two got together to form 18th & Addison. Apparently playing music from completely different genres didn’t deter them… in fact, it motivated them to venture into a different musical direction with 18th & Addison. In their new full length release, Makeshift Monster, 18th & Addison lays it all on the line in this powerful, impressive, complete album.

Rock and pop-punk influences combine with rich melodies to launch you into each and every song. The dual vocals are seamless, extremely effective and are potent complements to each other and to the music (Want proof? Check out “Fix Me”). The band’s musical prowess is solid and impressive. Each tune literally whisks you into the feeling of the song. Rich and full, never flat pop-infused , up-tempo tunes with lots of guitars, and sing-along lyrics makes 18th & Addison one helluva band. Their songwriting is quite extraordinary too.

This band and album are right up my alley. Good pop-punk is an art and 18th & Addison get that. I’m really digging on this band. Each tune is special and has a specific feel and tone. Favorite tunes include “All and Everything,” “War,” “Little Secrets” and 18th & Addison is another reason to be pissed off at record labels. Makeshift Monster is self-released and completely worthy to be on a major label. This album and this band are well worth getting to know really well.

This band is a must know for fans of New Found Glory, Plain White Ts, The Used, Fall Out Boy and maybe even old school Scandal. Show this band some serious love! Buy this album. You’ll be glad you did.
