Album Review: Ails – The Unraveling

Ails - The Unraveling

Ails are making a major impact on the melodic death metal scene with their first release, The Unraveling.

The group formed from the remains of the popular, disbanded Ludicra, who stopped making music in 2011. Fans of Ludicra will rejoice, as Ails offer a similar take on the melodic-yet-brutal sound, with a new edge. The Unraveling is heavy and brutal, but with plenty of melodic influence to keep the riffs memorable and strengthen the flow of the record.

“The Ruin” is one of the heaviest songs on the album, diverging a little from the more melodic flow of the album. “Dead Metaphors” is a great, classic melodic tune, and one of the standout songs.

Fans of Ludicra and melo-death in general will enjoy this record.
