Balto
Strangers
(Total Reality Meltdown)
Part rock ‘n’ roll, folk and alt-country from Portland, frontman Dan Sheron’s lone excursion to pen this album in Siberia shines through in the poetic, dreamy storytelling. Often soulful and with blues and psyche influences, there’s also several slow burning piano ballads as well as strong guitar hooks in the fuller, louder offerings. Sheron’s voice is nothing if not soulful, and the band complement that with roots flavor and influences from hard rock to gospel with occasional female backing vocals. This is Americana at its finest from a band everyone should hear.
