BANG were one of the great, unsung bands of the early-70’s. Often drawing comparisons to Black Sabbath, the band played a ripping style of proto-metal that was some of the best of its time. Despite being signed by Capitol Records and releasing three excellent albums, success was not going to be theirs, so they broke up, like many bands of their time. But unlike other bands, their music remained a favorite among people in the underground. The cult around this band from Philadelphia grew.
Now, for the first time, there is a comprehensive Best Of compilation from the band, cherry picking 18 of the best tracks from their three albums: BANG (1972), Mother/Bow To The King(1972) and Music (1973). To say this is some essential music is an understatement. If you have any interest in the roots of metal or in the music that influenced your current favorite stoner or riff rock bands, getting this comp is a no brainer. It easily earns its five star rating.
So, pick this up and feel the bang. You’ll be glad you did.
