Album Review: Bassel & The Supernaturals – Elements

Bassel & The Supernaturals
Elements
(Self-Release)

A 9 piece Chicago outfit fronted by Bassel Almadani, a Syrian-American, Elements is an album that seeks to both entertain and educate, especially with regard to the Syrian Refugee Crisis. Armed with trumpets, saxophones, flutes, clarinets, violins, and, perhaps most importantly, Almadani’s strong, soulful pipes, the rock template is tinged with the most graceful, sophisticated and warm influences of R&B, jazz, and funk. Probably most appropriately called neo-soul, it’s a timeless and accomplished listen for ears that appreciate mature, enlightening sounds. Also, the band are donating 20% of profits from the album to the Karam Foundation for humanitarian relief in Syria.
