The Black Clouds
After All
(Capacitor)
Having known nothing about this band and creation of this album, my initial listen left me thinking this would be the unknown outfit who opened for Seaweed and Mudhoney in 1992 and had Sub Pop A&R folks drooling uncontrollably. Turns out Mark Arm from Mudhoney lends his talents here, as does Jack Endino (Skin Yard) who also turned the knobs. However, this band hails about as far away as possible from the Northwest, instead calling New Jersey home.
Unequivocally ’90s and fuzzy, raw, and on occasion gentle, this is largely energetic and melodic guitar rock, where grunge/punk and alternative rock meet and legends like L7, Dinosaur Jr. and Nirvana are strong influences. The album sounds incredible, is both crunchy and loud in the most skilled way, and ensures that if you’ve ever liked a Foo Fighters, Lemonheads or Soundgarden song you’ll need to hear this.
