Caldor Kids
Self-Titled EP
(Self Release)
I don’t mean to date myself, but I’ve worked in a few Caldor stores when I was a much younger person, so to see a band take the name of this no longer in existence big retailer and use it for themselves is quite entertaining. Maybe, I’m a Caldor kid, too, but not really in the band. I bet it beats being a Toys R Us kid. I wouldn’t know.
But more importantly, the band has a mission statement, that goes totally along with their retail punk. (Could that be a new genre?)
It reads “Our goal at Caldor Kids is to develop loyal customers. We do that by providing customers with exciting music and merchandise at value prices in a friendly shopping environment.”
I can’t vouch for their value merchandise but after giving a couple of listens to their new EP, they definitely provide the listener with some exciting music. Basically, this is fast, simple and snotty garage punk, a little bit like Lumpy & The Dumpers. Most songs hover around the one and a half minute mark, and they all bring the excitement. I’m sure the “friendly shopping environment’ happens to be whatever dive bar or basement they are playing at the time.
So, if you a quick shot of “retail punk” why don’t you give this EP a listen? Your customer satisfaction is guaranteed.
