San Francisco’s Shannon Madden and Jess Labrador, i.e. Chasms, despite being a duo, emit full blasts of charged feedback, tense bass lines, and ominous rhythms where Labrador’s chilling vocals and giant programmed drums reinforce shoegaze, industrial and doom influences. The album is set to themes of love and darkness and it sounds like it; it’s slow burning and soars with both noise and beauty, coming off as an aberration of pop that requires the listener to earn their gratification through appreciation of crawling tempos and a droning journey.
