An outfit comprised of Cheese Borger (The Pink Holes) and his wife Meredith Rutledge-Borger, the pair trade vocal duties on this oddly cryptic version of punk that also brings members of Floyd Band and Archie and the Bunkers into the equation.
Surprisingly less rowdy than that cast of characters would lead you to believe (not to mention the band name), there’s actually a lot of ’70s influences and some pretty eclectic, dark tunes with an emphasis on atmosphere as well. Of course Cheese Borger’s raw, punk influences aren’t stifled, especially on the deeper tracks, and plenty of the album sits somewhere amid garage rock and punk ‘n’ roll, though organs, muffled horns and saxophone solos punctuate the listen quite well.
While “Best Record Ever” might be a bit ambitious, one of the best albums of 2018 is certainly not out of the question.
