Album Review: Dead Conspiracy – Self-Titled

Dead Conspiracy
Self-Titled
(Self-Release)

Well, there’s a story. Dead Conspiracy, birthed in Portland Oregon, in 1986, played death metal just as the genre was being understood. Taking cues from Slayer and Possessed and Sodom, Dead Conspiracy was a band combining thrash with darker forces. They released five demos by 1989. The band had split and slipped into obscurity by 1990 as Morbid Angel, Death and Obituary took the reins. In 2006, Hells Headbangers approached the dudes to release their discography; which was, as Gore Drenched Legacy. This revamped the crew and they released Abomination Underground. Now, as 2016 withers, Dead Conspiracy give us an unholy collection of twisted defiance on their self-titled, self-released album.

Dead Conspiracy continue to write severe death metal that ravages any speakers burdened with their riffs. The band still holds the influential thrash of the first half of the 80s decade. Now that we are ending 2016, the term Old School Death Metal is gaining momentum with specific genre-branding critics. Dead Conspiracy truly embrace this. Dead Conspiracy do not spend too much time embellish in tech-heavy guitar lines or even blistering solos. Which is fine with me. I’m not hear for the solos. Bone-crunching riffs, pounding breakdowns and speed tickle my fancy. Dead Conspiracy deliver with anger, atmosphere, and energy.

With track titles such as, “Born Again Massacre”, “The Earth Rots in a Grave”, and “Cruelty Through Ripping Torture” Dead Conspiracy’s intent is obvious. Gore and horror and all that incites disgust provide lyrics growled through enraged vocals provided by new guy, Mike Abominator of Gravehill. His voice, dripping with devilish flare. “Crawling Dread” and “Paralyzed with Terror” exhibit Mike at his most vicious to close the album over ripping fast tracks.

Dead Conspiracy is a powerful album, even after many repeated listens. It does everything you need OSDM to do. The band is riddled with acrimonious motivation. I easily will replace tech-metal with burning passion for the genre. So dig up your favorite cadaver to sit with while you get kick your ears kicked in.

RIYL: Awesome death metal.
