Album Review: The Dean Ween Group – ‘The Deaner Album’

The Dean Ween Group - The Deaner Album

Mickey Melchiondo’s first solo effort separated from Ween is pretty much what we’d expect; incredible guitar work (3 instrumentals help illustrate this), unpredictable arrangements and bizarre genre skipping that is beyond classification. The comedy aspect spills over from Ween, too, as it’s as humorous as it is accomplished, with members of The Meat Puppets and Parliament Funkadelic on hand to help flesh out the fun. While genres as seemingly straight forward as blues, funk, rockabilly, metal and rock are explored, Melchiondo’s means of exploration are from standard, or even understandable, which of course, was as big a draw for Ween as it is for Dean Ween solo. If you’re gutted that there may never be another Ween album, then this will ease your pain quite well.
