The Edge of Seventeen [OST]
(STX Recordings)
I suppose every good teen flick deserves an equally decent soundtrack to go along with it. I’m not going to say that every track here’s a winner (there’s definitely more than one “dud”), but the songs that do strike a nerve manage to do it with some style.”Who I thought You Were” by Santigold and “When They Fight They Fight” by Generationals are just quirky enough to be likable. But the most interesting moment undoubtedly comes from The 1975’s “Somebody Else;” it’s somber tone nails the feeling of teenage angst and heartbreak so well, one almost feels instantly transported back to high school. The Edge of Seventeen (the film) is being compared to the likes of such classic teen movies as The Breakfast Club; one thing’s for sure, its soundtrack sets the mood right, for the most part.
