Album Review: Frost Koffin – Danger and Deliverance

Frost Koffin - Danger and Deliverance

Playing throwback thrash with the ferocity of one of the greats, Frost Koffin just unleashed the fury with Danger and Deliverance.

In their promo notes, the band relates that they used to play in metalcore bands in their 20s, but wanted to get back to the old-school roots of metal with this most recent project, and it shows. They play basic stuff, but the heaviness they bring to their riff writing is strong, and song structure is super complex.

“Hell Roller” stands out as one of the heaviest and most solid songs on the album, pairing the riff structures with shouted vocals more reminiscent of modern doom and stoner rock. “Brain Pollution” is another favorite, drawing a lot of influence from the death metal they grew up with and modernizing their sound.

Danger and Deliverance is recommended for anyone into heavy, classic metal with a modern twist. While the record is nuanced, there are moments where it feels a bit redundant, with all the classic metal and throwback worship out there. But the musicianship and unique sound stylings make Frost Koffin stand out, and make the record worth listening to.
