Tony Erba is a born and bred Cleveland underground hardcore legend having played in such bands as Face Value, 9 Shocks Terrors and Gordon Solie Motherfuckers (GSMF) to name but a few. FYPM (Fuck You Pay Me) is his newest endeavor, and it continues his tradition of putting out ripping hardcore shot through with a very dark and sarcastic take on the world.
On the band’s third record, and first for Tankcrimes, they continue to do what they always do: lay down some fast and rockin’ hardcore peppered with their lead singer’s off-kilter look at the world. Most of the songs are below the two minute mark. They’re little packets of adrenaline disguised as songs. They just start, fuck shit up and end, before you have a chance to catch your breath. Though, you will want to play them again, because they are quite catchy.
On this one he goes after gun nuts (“Ammosexual”), rapists (“Steubenville City Limits”) and of course the state of hardcore punk (“Opt Out”, “50 White Dudes With Machetes/Crisis Actors” features a hilarious skit where two lunkheaded hardcore bros get angry because they can’t crowdkill at one of the band’s shows. Poor babies.) among other subjects. His wiseacre social commentary is dead on, and a relief to anybody getting sick of hardcore bands that just cover the same boring old subjects.
Dumbed Down is a wild and out of control shot of blistering hardcore. It rages and burns with an energy of a band half its age. This one kills. Don’t miss out.
