Gideon
Cold
(Equal Vision)
Gideon have proved time and again that they can be counted on to 1-up themselves with every passing release. Case and point, Calloused (2014) has now been replaced by Cold as the band’s hardest record yet (not an easy feat). Starting with “Champions”, Gideon bring out their big guns right off the bat with several of their best songs to date. Fueled by the early lines “Cut the lights!” and “I’m seeing red, I’m seeing red!”, the opening track is a thunderous re-introduction with an anthem-like chorus of epic proportions, and it doesn’t end there (not even close). “Cursed (featuring Bryan Garris of Knocked Loose)” feels chaotic and unhinged, “Freedom (featuring Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed)” pounds like a true hardcore assault, and “Walk Alone” weaves the most unique instrumentation of this release with the brutality of the band’s pummeling formula. Cold is the kind of record you play real loud with the bass levels high and the drums sending out massive snaps of vibration; it’s a lovely time to be had.
