Though they broke up in 1991, The Hasbros have regrouped for this first album that thankfully still carries traces of the tuneful post-punk that was so prevalent in the early ’90s. Putting a driving pop- influenced sheen on the album, the trio blaze through driving rhythms, an endless supply of melody and vocals that range from smooth to coarse (looks both Joe and Bob sing), while influences like The Replacements., Dinosaur Jr., and Bob Mould seem easily spotted. Somewhere between power-pop, post punk and ’90s alt-rock, while the whole “ex-members of” nonsense isn’t necessary here, we can’t deny the talent that Joe Gorelick (Red Hare, Garden Variety, Retisonic, Bluetip) brings to the equation, though Ken O’Connor and Bob Hanophy certainly hold their own as well. Don’t sleep on this one- it’s going to be one of year’s best- and be sure to use the download code, it comes with bonus tunes.
