Almost out of nowhere, HIDE have burst onto the scene with a mindblowing debut industrial record that is definitely putting them on the map.
The band is a collaboration between Heather Gabel, a visual artist, and Seth Sher, a drummer, and based in Chicago. They have already done some live shows and built up quite a bit of well-deserved hype around their sound and image, and now they’re turning heads with the new record.
“Bound-Severed” is one of the most aggressive songs on the album, reminiscent of an up-tempo goth dance anthem turned even darker and more angry. And “Wear Your Skin” is definitely an album favorite; it utilizes some awesome synth work to create a grim and brutal soundscape.
This record doesn’t really fall into the traditional realm of “metal” or any other easily quantifiable genre, but the industrial influences and modern, nuanced approach will be a major pull for those looking to hear something new, and fans of the weird and the wonderful will rejoice.
