It’s the perfect time of year for depressive funeral doom, and no one nails that sound quite like The Howling Void.
This one-man funeral doom project, created by Ryan Wilson, is back, with a record that marks the ten-year anniversary of The Howling Void. Like many musical offerings that are unencumbered by the burden of collaboration, The Howling Void has already put out six records in that time. This one is especially strong because of it’s musical depth, and even-more-personal nature.

“A Seed on Stone” is a little like a ‘best of funeral doom’ recording, offering almost all the beloved tropes of the genre in one track, but doing so in a way that still works like a cohesive song. “Silence and the Setting Sun” feels like the most personal song on the album, and hits the hardest in terms of sadness and overall atmosphere.
Fans of this project won’t be disappointed at all, and he’s sure to win over some new followers with this strong release.
