Album Review: Hyborian – Hyborian: Volume I

Hyborian
Hyborian: Volume I
(The Company)

‘Twas the week before Emperor of Sand, and all through the swamp
A new batch was brewing, packed full of stomp and pomp
Comparisons abound, with Mastodon, High on Fire, and Baroness
Yet these Missourian lads sure, “Show Me” they groove with loads of finesse
Bits of psych, stoner, doom, and prog puree into your Dad’s old record collection
On this sci-fi concept, Hyborian showcase an ability to concoct quite the tasty musical confection
Much like a jogger who needs five miles to reach her runner’s high
Volume I takes a couple spins before you start mindlessly tapping along on your thigh
Talent is not a problem for Hyborian, their potential is as high as the sky
(Or just the average stoner…)
If it is Blood Mountain-era Mastodon you love
Then this record will fit your musical hand like a glove
Now all I want is Volume II, but please for the love of God
Don’t go full-prog and add a kazoo.
Hyborian love the god of riffs who sits high and mighty on the mount-y
And she blesses us here with her groovy bounty
