Album Review: Jordan Burchel – ‘Vowel Sounds’

Jordan Burchel - Vowel Sounds

Jordan Burchel
Vowel Sounds
(Self-Release)

In the consistently spilling over pool of singer-songwriters out there, how does one truly stand out? Well, to me at least, it’s simple; write a song I’ll immediately want to hear again. Jordan Burchel may not have a voice to win reality shows or play the most complicated music out there, but his introspective songwriting and sullen melodies are in a league with early Ryan Adams or Elliott Smith. Though no two tracks resemble another with ambient moments, upbeat rock songs, as well as soft, piano friendly moments, there is much emphasis on electric guitar and it’s largely poetic, soulful and often burns slowly with a dense emotional attachment. I’d be willing to bet that most of the readers here have several artists from Gainesville in their collection. It’s time to add another, what do you know, he writes albums full of songs you’ll want to hear again and again…
