The New York and Chicago residents come together a decade after they met in a college while being immersed in their own careers, Beharie with his solo work and more recently work with Zs, and Rankin-Parker as a cellist working with Primus, Iron & Wine and many others.
Describing this collaboration is no easy task. Artistic and experimental, no two songs resemble each other, and the sounds are varied from lush strings to jarring electronic noises to hypnotic droning. Almost entirely sans vocals, a couple of brief spoken word moments appear, although the duo say plenty with their sonic blasts, ominous moods, and heavy use of MIDI keyboard, sampler, and cello. A fractured, intimate journey that steers turbulently through many emotions, there is really nothing out there that sounds like this, which is a big part of the appeal.
