Album Review: The Nightmare Police – Losing The Light

The Nightmare Police
Losing The Light
(Self-Release)

Rawer than a cut, as pessimistic as a morbid thinker, but punkier and ever so driven. This is what guides us here, and The Nightmare Police don’t stutter when showcasing their highly formidable sound. This collection, titled Losing The Light, is a reflection, a compendium made up of drunken conversations and anxiety. The band from Long Island, convey addiction and let us know what is bubbling in their heads, a forest fire like burning sensation. Their music is far from being tepid, it’s full bloodied and grandiose, perfectly executed for the punk enthusiasts.

There’s no let up with Losing The Light either. When it starts it thrills with guitar blitzes and sharp edged, sorrowful lyrics, truthfully written down with alcohol drenched fingers. And punk is worshipped by the freaks and the alienated, the people drinking in alleyways, painting their perfect world. But, they know that darkness awaits, that addiction is an easy lap to fall into. As mentioned previously, addiction is thoroughly sprinkled across the subject matter on Losing The Light.

The EP is also a bold representation of losing it all trying to reclaim a purpose in life. Alcohol is the demon with bright red eyes, saluting the downfall of its consumers, and the band members of The Nightmare Police know how it can alter and kill the vibe, even though it’s supposed to stimulate the mind and weaken the anxious episodes.

The record opens with ‘’Taking Hold’’. It’s a song of resentment towards someone. It’s a guitar blitz, offering straight to your face punk rock that doesn’t teeter on the line of repetitiveness or the ordinary, there is something different about this band. ‘’Transitions’’ heaps on the punk thrills, with fast pace vocals and powerful drumbeats, conveying a story about trying to patch up a decaying existence. It’s bittersweet and emotionally revealing. ‘’Where ‘’Were You? Yet again showcases a driven guitar sound and a profound story that ties up the EP. And these musicians seem to yearn for a peaceful day filled with hope and trusted chords, they’re truly sifting through the broken glass, trying to uncover beautiful luck.

The Nightmare Police are a talented and independent band, searching for solace.
