Nights Like Thieves - Light the Fuse and Run

Nights Like Thieves
Light the Fuse And Run
(La Escalera Records)

A proper name to any record is a must, and Nights Like Thieves have crafted a six song EP entitled Light the Fuse and Run and they do just the same. The release runs around twenty minutes, honing the vibe of igniting a fire with their pop infused songs, riding a wave of emo/pop-punk around as well.

Opener “Goldbugs” bursts immediately after two guitars bouncing riffs off of each other, with higher pitched vocals taking front and center of the music. It’s a catchy track with enough immediacy to latch onto. The style of singing is very familiar and reminiscent of the early and middle of 2000s. The track has enough vibrancy and changes of pace to keep the music interesting, with the vocal melody bouncing through different accents and pitches. Hell, all of Light The Fuse And Run features tracks with these same qualities, creating a consistency from the band that finds a bit of their own flavor.

“Buried Missiles” is a bit more moody, wading through the atmosphere with soft instrumentals before scorching the ground with a detonation of music. The lyrics are ridden with more of a distressed tone, showing the band’s depth and dynamic structure to creating music. Light the Fuse and Run is a release that doesn’t need too much to show its colors. This allows for the songs to be an easy and familiar listen, but they don’t go much beyond that.
