Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons
Self-Titled EP
(Motörhead Music)
This is rock & roll! Phil Campbell knows just about as much as anybody about the classic energy of hard rock music. He played guitar with the king crusader of born to lose, live to win lifestyle, the late Lemmy Kilmister, for 31 years. Motörhead has laid the identity of hard rocking blues chased with whiskey, sex, and attitude, and Campbell still has a lot of that magic left in his finger tips to bring to the music world.
Phil Campbell has brought in his talented children to usher in the new frontier of this vintage style. Not only are they lively and fun musicians, you can tell they’re very passionate and eager through the music. I was very impressed with the track “Life In Space”, a tune that carries with it the experience of Phil Campbell and the vitality of fresh young ragers in Todd, Dane, and Tyla. Together with dad Phil, they make up the Campbell crew, but there’s one more piece to this high powered unit. The vocalist of Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons is Neil Starr, a singer who specializes in the old ‘80z sleaze rock tones. The Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons album is really good. Motörhead without Lemmy would be a broken thing, and Phil is not trying to do that with his band. Phil is going his own route with a unique brand, combining the riff mastery of his entire career with the fresh forces of his new group. Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons assures that the old school disciple attitude will live on in new blood.
