Rafter
XYZ
(Joyful Noise)
Rafter Roberts is never idle with his recorded output as well as his seemingly endless ideas which always defy convention. He’s already dabbled in bedroom pop and funk, among other sounds, and XYZ further illustrates his iconoclastic prowess with a version of electro-pop that’s about experimental as one can get without completely alienating listeners. An album where no two tracks run the same course, there’s R&B, reggae and hip-hop influences, as well as plenty of bizarre background noises, and while it often seems that numerous paths populate each song, the songs ultimately meet at a place of creative and quirky genius. If you thought you already heard every angle of indie-pop explored, you were wrong, cause Rafter ventures where no one else has thought to.
