Album Review: All That Remains – Madness

All That Remains - Madness

All That Remains
Madness
(Razor & Tie)

Though the progression of All That Remains hasn’t been significant over the years, there has certainly been a growth from album to album. Madness, their eighth entry, finds some real power in its elements of hard rock, taking a mainstream approach with the powerfully emotional “If I’m Honest” and an acoustic detour through the soothing “Back to You”. Their heavier material is showing some wear in spots – like the opening track, “Safe House” – but with repeated spins they’ll increase in significance within the record. That being said, it’s certainly the further expanded songs that stick with the listener as things play out. There’s a lot to be discovered during Madness – new and old feels, if you would – and as such, the release should easily appeal to longtime fans and newbies alike. Opening familiar and closing in something more darkly theatrical, it’s a record that covers a fair amount of ground in its thirteen tracks, and therefore should be experienced at least a few times over before judgment is passed.
