The brainchild of Ian Saint Pé, the former guitarist/vocalist of Black Lips and currently of Diamond Rugs fame, Saint Pé was born out of his desire for new surroundings. In this case new isn’t all that different from his former bands, thankfully, as Fixed Focus maintains pop sensibilities with the Nashville flavor of where this was recorded, spewing upbeat and memorable, groove filled garage rock. Heavy on the guitar work and occasionally with retro feelings, it’s full of energy, singing mixed with spoken vocals, and even trumpets, sax, pedal steel, too. Much like anything he’s been a part of, this is well worth a listen to see if it strikes a chord.
