Album Review: Saint Vitus – ‘Live Vol. 2’

Saint Vitus - Live Vol 2

Saint Vitus
Live Vol. 2
(Season of Mist)

Saint Vitus is another one of those bands I tend to forget is still even out there. For whatever reason, they never really caught on with the masses like many of their contemporaries. Their latest live release (Vol. 1 having actually been released as far back as 1990) contains all of the tracks expected, such as “Dying Inside,” “War is our Destiny,” and “Born Too Late.” But it’s the eerie “Patra (Petra)” that sticks out the most with it’s hypnotic, moody tone. The recording on Live Vol. 2 does sound a bit amateurish, but the doom-ridden guitar riffs are still just as dark and menacing as ever. I was definitely ready to break out some old Sabbath and Pentagram records after just one listen.

Purchase Live Vol. 2 here.
