Serpent Crown
Incantations of Vengeance
(Self-Release)
Serpent Crown represent an undying ethos that resonates throughout the Oakland-San Francisco scene; forever on the frontier, Bay Area metal does not suffer labels, and the band are crossing thresholds with sounds from thrash, punk, and doom all over the (fret) board.
Incantations of Vengeance is driven by a hammering tempo with a versatile range of melodies to deliver. Dara Santhai is as genuine as she is hardcore, with impressive talent as a visceral vocalist and guitar player. There is no need for polish here. Serpent Crown is a machine of rhythm grinding out solid and sinister tones, and the groove delivers a great deal of the goods on Incantations of Vengeance. The band are pretty tight and focused on writing thrashing riffs, but show moments of finesse and crafty technicality in between as well. Incantations of Vengeance has a sound that is very raw, crisp, and unclean; Serpent Crown has firmly planted themselves within the tenacious underground. The music has evolved quite a bit from their last offering, and surely this three piece should continue to create promising unique music in the times to come.
