There’s nothing quite like a track catching you off guard. Hearing a song start in one place and finish in a new one is a refreshing experience, as your expectations for an album go right out the window. That’s the feeling I had while listening to Too, the new album from Sorrytown.
On track’s like “Know” and “Garden,” Sorrytown go for more upbeat melodies, which pairs well with some of the darker tracks on the album. But I was left impressed with some of the band’s tracks that went back to the idea of playing with your expectations. Songs like “Doorway” and “M.” highlight the band’s expert blend of melodic vocals and shoegaze instrumental breakdowns
What intrigued me most about this album was each track seemed to try to one-up the previous one; going for something different and off-kilter that would keep the listener on edge. By the end of my listening experience, I found myself wanting a bit more. I enjoyed each track but felt a little bit extra time could have added to each one. Overall though, Too impressed me and I’m looking forward to listening to it many more times.
