Album Review: Tall Teenagers – All In A Day’s Waste

Tall Teenagers
All In A Day’s Waste
(Self-Release)

Following up their self-titled debut that came out in April 2016, Providence, RI garage rock dynamos Tall Teenagers are back with their sophomore release All In A Day’s Waste. The record that came out on March 19 has drummer Shaun Chevalier forming a stunning rhythm section with bassist Shannon Puerini. Puerini’s husband Damian joins her sister Chelsea Paulhus on dueling guitars and vocals to create a rugged aesthetic that conveys swagger and coolness. The album’s tone is more rigid than its predecessor. There’s also a heightened intensity that grabs hold of the senses.

The band still possesses a twang that carries over from their debut. There’s a plethora of riffage that’s also present within each track. Keith Souza and Seth Manchester from Machines With Magnets in Pawtucket, RI handled the producing, mixing and engineering to make everything sound sonically pristine. A few tracks have a dark vibe while others are emphatic and rambunctious. Tall Teenagers pull off an uncanny thing by bringing a lot of variety while sticking to a distinct style.

Damian and Paulhus’ harmonies shine brightly in “Lights Out”. The build-up and the breakdown are very similar while the whole equation adds up from sheer amplification and vintage pop structure. “Cleaning Out The House” is a prime example of the band’s signature twang. The rambunctiousness is also exemplified via the energy being released. Another rabble rouser is “FM Radio” with Damien and Paulhus both screaming at the top of their lungs.

Tall Teenagers will be celebrating the release of All In A Day’s Waste at Dusk in Providence on June 24 with fellow rock & roll acts Pyramid, Eric & The Nothing and Party Pigs. It’s bound to be a party that anyone and everyone in The Creative Capital should go to. While you’re there, grab a copy of the new album. It’s chock full of thrills without the spills.
