Sludge is known for its crushing, nothing-held-back approach to music, and Tarasque are bursting onto the scene with the intensity their genre is known for, but a fresh new take.
Their debut album, Innen Aussen, is loud, sludgy, heavy post-metal that takes a lot of the traditional tropes of sludge in a new direction. While the record is incredibly heavy and powerful, the aggressive riffs and chugging leads are accompanied by softer, more introspective interludes.
Hailing from Germany, all the band’s song titles and lyrics are in German, adding a poetic quality to the overall ambiance and vibe of the record. “Alles Nichts” is probably the standout song from the album, with a lot of really slow transitions that build to heavy, aggressive breakdowns. The five songs on the album work well together and blend cohesively to form a strong debut record.
This album will resonate with folks who listen to sludge and experimental, dark metal. Although the music is super depressive, the future looks bright for Tarasque.
