Ten Cents Short
Major Steps, Minor Setbacks.
(Self-Release)
Pop punk is a genre engineered here with shuddering emotion and sincere musicality. And you will hear influence after influence plastered upon the musical grain, as American band Ten Cents Short shake up a concoction of punky riffs and raw lyrics, producing an EP of a stern output.
The words are shot out like they’ve been artistically designed like bullets, they’re also laced in pessimism and they cater for the runaways and disenfranchised, the freaks. Pop punk has that formula well rounded and meticulously crafted.
Ten Cents Short send us into their world quickly with their sophomore effort Major Steps, Minor Setbacks., which has been produced by Chris Piquette, along with the pioneer that is Alan Day co-writing the track “Beggars” – with who’s influence you are guaranteed a potent, riff edgy song. And on this release, Ten Cents Short don’t hold back, they don’t powder over the cracks, they showcase a strong heartbeat like sound. A sound of power and redemption, perfected and implemented.
The pop punk purists will love and cherish this, they’ll listen to it for days through a daze, and they’ll sit back and learn to cope with the shit that’s been thrown at them. Music like this can heal broken bonds, it can silence the demons prodding at the brain. Ten Cents Short offer up enough musical ability and their credentials are truly showcased. From the guitar powered “Draw The Line,” which creates tension and describes a fall from grace. Pride is broken. And the punk influenced “Beggars,” which highlights loves darkest day and why perfection is overrated.
Ten Cents Short have delivered a pop punk effort of sincerity and authority.
