Wayne Hancock
Slingin’ Rhythm
(Bloodshot)
Since the mid ’90s, Wayne Hancock’s country, jazz, blues and honky tonk sounds have transported us to simpler times while giving us a soundtrack to shuffle and ponder while snapping fingers and tappin’ toes. Opting for the bouncier side of throwback country, the guitar solos, and pedal steel are executed here with such a timeless and warm feel, there’s no wonder why Hank Williams III has opted to cover several Hancock tunes. Lyrically, Hancock’s stories are about what he knows- living on the freeways and, of course, literally slingin’ rhythm for a living, though he’ll be the first to note that he sings to pay rent, but by the time he’s home, it’s already spent. Thankfully, it’s a life that he has no desire to halt, and now in his 50’s, he’s still making music that is impossible not to enjoy, and can turn any non-country fans into a devout Hancock supporter.
