Sometimes, people forget that Tennessee has a lot more to offer than just variations of country music. Case-in-point, Nashville’s Western Medication, whose sophomore album steers a little further from their post-punk roots into a groove-friendly place, where sounds from across the pond infiltrate a very ’90s alt-rock setting.
Often feeling more like a band from Manchester than middle America, Taste is a more polished affair from the outfit, where strings, synth, and a heavy Brit-pop influence make this a listen that will bring listeners back to the early days of 120 Minutes, when college rock was all the rage.
An adventurous outing that pays off well for Western Medication, like-minded legends such as Happy Mondays and Primal Scream come to mind, and that’s certainly not a bad thing at all.
