Witch Vomit - Poisoned Blood

What’s going on with Portland, Oregon these days? Looks like the Northwest has a growing metal scene to keep an eye on. It’s already home to bestial, black metal freaks, Weregoat, as well as Demoncy, Red Fang, Toxic Holocaust, Zirakzigil and Torture Rack, of which the latter shares members with fellow hell hounds, Witch Vomit. Who by the way, are getting ready to release the follow to their 2016 record A Scream from the Tomb Below with the aptly titled Poisoned Blood. If you were lucky enough to have heard “A Scream…,” and connected with Vomit’s insane style of old school death metal, then Poisoned Blood will not disappoint.

If you’re not familiar with this band, Witch Vomit is back to basics death metal, reminiscent of early Massacre and Cannibal Corpse as well as current labelmates Carnal Law and Crepuscular Crescendo. This no frills, almost lo-fi approach to this genre of extreme music is a return to classic form that emphasizes a bigger, even fatter sound achieved through a simpler, more minimal approach, which allows you to connect with the band in a raw, almost primal way. Poisoned Blood exemplifies this and hits the mark with precision. What you hear is what you get, and that’s ten tons of zombified, necrotizing metal.

Poisoned Blood is four brand new songs with an intro bringing the total running time to just over 20 minutes, which believe it or not, works in the favor of this record. Whats happening in Portlands metal scene is well represented with Witch Vomit who is certainly a band to watch in the future.
