Album Review: XII Boar – ‘Beyond The Valley Of The Triclops’

XII Boar
Beyond The Valley Of The Triclops
(Self-Release)

Some groups have a tendency to go overkill on recordings and after hearing XII Boar’s new album Beyond The Valley Of The Triclops, this is one of those bands. Echoing an extreme amount of masculinity and testosterone, the best description for this would be the following:

If Jason Statham and the Macho Man Randy Savage were slathered in baby oil and jumped into a giant inflatable pool of raw steaks, Coors Light and Monster Energy Drink to fight each other, this record would likely be the soundtrack to that romp.

Twelve songs of beer gut/chest pounding metal, heavy groove guitars with guttural vocals spewing generic lyrics that a Zakk Wylde-led Blind Guardian would possibly write, this is real alpha male “Conan The Barbarian” type shit. All that’s missing is for Michael Bay to direct one of their upcoming music videos. The record is chock full of chops and riffs that have a good time feel to them, so you can tell that XII Boar is doing everything they can to provide a good time to their crowd of people, who in turn wants to have a good time with XII Boar. I will crack a beer to that righteous attitude, but not to this record. (Matthew Hutchison)
