Roadburn 2020: Red Sparowes, Russian Circles, Brutus, Torche, Miserable, Cloud Rat the new names

Roadburn unveiled the new bands of the 2020’s line-up. A reunited Red Sparowes will play exclusively – and for the first time in almost 10 years – at Roadburn as part of Emma Ruth Rundle’s curation.

Red Sparowes is a Los Angeles based instrumental band known for its epic, heavy and sprawling sounds. The band comprising current and former members of Isis, Marriages, The Nocturnes, Halifax Pier, Angel Hair and Pleasure Forever. Their sound is characteristic of soundscape-influenced experimental rock, with an otherwise uncommon extensive use of a pedal steel guitar. The band released three full length albums At The Soundless Dawn (2005) and Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun (2006) both on Neurot Recordings and The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer (2010) with Sargent House.

Russian Circles will return at Roadburn after 4 years. The band has been coasting on a surprising level of consistent excellence. Their previous record, Guidance, was a lovely marriage of impressive songwriting and impeccable production (https://newnoisemagazine.com/album-review-russian-circles-guidance/). This is Russian Circles released “Blood Year” via Sargent House.

Brutus will make their Roadburn debut next year. Stefanie, Stijn and Peter teamed up to start Brutus in 2013. They all met while playing in different bands from the same region of Leuven (Belgium). In merging their different ideas and musical tastes they have formed a strong union, both musically and personally.

Torche will join the lineup. “Admission” is one of the best albums of 2019. 15 years into their career, Torche have established themselves as a cornerstone of American heavy rock. Admission sees the band expanding on the themes and songwriting prowess that have always reverberated with music fans throughout their critically acclaimed discography. Everything about Admission feels like an elevation.

Kristina Esfandiari will play at the festival with Miserable and NGHTCRWLR.

Cloud Rat will play  among of Hante., an exclusive fly in show from Warhorse-Official, Rorcal playing their new album Muladona, Die Wilde Jagd, Alber Jupiter and the ten year anniversary celebrations from Dead Neanderthals including a collaboration with Scott Hedrick of Skeletonwitch.
