Providence, RI’s Royal Street discover a balance between funky pop and energetic rock. They do it by combining these two elements along with blending vintage and new styles together create a stunning sound. Their debut album Flavors was released on June 16 with each track flowing smoothly while exuding rhythmic sensations. Vocalist Viana Newton, bassist Zach Brock, guitarist Alex Beattie and drummer Brian Cauti exhibit immense artistic growth with the new album. The band finds their own identity by staying true to themselves and having a whole lot of fun while doing it.
“Coming together to make an album is always a learning process, and this one taught us a lot about who we are as a band, “ Newton says on the making of Royal Street’s debut. “We met each other playing in the pop punk and hardcore scene, but with Royal Street, we really wanted to explore the side of mainstream pop that we loved, funky stuff like Prince and Daft Punk, and good old straight-forward rock and roll like Weezer. Still, we couldn’t forget our roots. Flavors is the result, it’s our attempt to represent all the different stuff we’re into, where we came from and where we’re at now.”
“Prove It” has a catchy chorus and an emphatic tone that sticks to the ears and floats around the mind. Fredua Boakye from Boston R&B-funk groovemeisters Bad Rabbits serves as a guest vocalist to up the intensity. Bringing the groove is “Cranston Crank” with Beattie’s guitar licks serving as the backbone. It’s a triumphant breakup song that carries the theme of moving on and living life to the fullest. Another dose of funk comes courtesy of “The Good Things” with a plethora of energy that’s infectious.
Grab a copy of the album as soon as you can. It’s got a vibe that’ll take over your body while making it dance and you’re going to love every minute.
