Written during a time of personal turmoil, Self Defense Family are on the verge of releasing their mini-LP Colicky. The record will be put out by Iron Pier on September 9th. Their newest single from the release, “It Isn’t Very Clear, Is It?” first premiered on the BBC Radio One Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter. The single is fuzzy, undeniably trudging through post-punk atmospheres with an eerie vocal presence over the top.
Self Defense Family are known for music that leaves listeners entranced, often repeating a motif through and through to make point. “It Isn’t Very Clear, Is It?” leaves listeners wondering what the clear is, and where it should be found. The song in essence captures a bit of what Colicky is — a dark record rolling through the disturbing trials that come with love and intimacy.
