Earlier this year, Julien Baker released her third studio album, Little Oblivions, and after not being able to play live shows for over a year, she dropped her tour dates for the rest of the year. And man oh man! The world was in for a treat with these shows.
The Los Angeles date of the tour landed at the Wiltern theater, which was funny enough, the last place I saw Julien performed with Boygenius. This time around she had Los Angeles’ own Illuminati Hotties and Chicago’s Dehd. Unfortunately, your boy got into some issues at the door which made me miss them both but trust me when I say this, Illuminati Hotties and Dehd are incredible live and both have sick records.
Julien Baker hopped on the stage and proceeded to putting 1,500 people into a rollercoaster of emotions. She started the set with newer songs then went to a barrage of heavy hitting hits ranging from both Sprained Ankle and Turn Out the Lights. And you bet your ass I sobbed to “Something,” and was very thankful the Wiltern has places where I can conceal my tears.
She also surprised L.A. with an appearance from Phoebe Bridgers. (Fun fact: every single time I’ve seen JB, Phoebe has been there)
Julien still has a handful of U.S. dates left, so better catch her before she heads over the her Euro dates.
