For the first time since it’s started, the Vans Warped Tour tried something a little different when it came to announcements. Pairing with one of it’s bigger sponsors – Full Sail University – Warped live-streamed from the university in Winter Park, Florida to announce the full lineup and featured a few short live performances from Real Friends, Dash Ten, Wage War, and Less Than Jake.

Kevin Lyman, along with Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3 hosted the event. Real Friends were first on stage, followed by the list of bands featured on Warped’s main stages. Kevin followed that with an impressive list of organizations that will be on the tour and mentioned the impact that canned food and blood drives have had on the community. “We can’t tackle the worlds problems, but we can try to tackle them in our neighborhoods which is what you guys are doing.”

Two bands followed – Dash Ten and Wage War. They both put on some great performances, and it’s nice to see that the festival stays true to its roots of helping those newer bands get out there.

Kevin came back out to announce that he will be trying to work with the Make A Wish Foundation again this year and try to help kids that are otherwise too sick to come to Warped have an opportunity to do so. Another touching thing he mentioned is that he is working with Unite the United to form an auction of band merch and memorabilia to continue helping The Ghost Inside – which were in a severe bus accident recently and are still recovering. Kevin says he’s never held a spot for a band a year in advanced, but offered to do so for The Ghost Inside to be on 2017 Warped Tour if they would like.

Closing the night was Florida’s own Less Than Jake with an extremely high-energy performance. Final comments from Kevin included mentions of a few special surprise guests throughout the tour – one in particular being Wakka Flocka Flame hitting a few of the West Coast dates.

This year’s Warped Tour kicks off on June 24 in Dallas, Texas. You can see a full list of bands, dates, and ticket information at vanswarpedtour.com.
