‘Pray/Witness’ is a song dealing with the constant thoughts/experiences of losing a loved one and all the regrets that come with it. We never want to believe that those days will eventually come for all of us, so we lie to ourselves as a means to cope. Some of us do it in ways far more unhealthy than others. When things finally turn for the worse, a lot of the best people I know would destroy themselves by focusing on anything they ‘should’ve done differently,’ when, in actuality, there was really nothing they could have done to prevent anything. The world is a beautiful place where we have the opportunity to spend a finite amount of time with those we cherish and love. We need to learn how to love and forgive ourselves for these issues that were never our fault in the first place. The chance at life is too wonderful to be constantly weighed down by ‘what if’s.’
