Video Premiere: Silent Carnival – “Arles”

Silent Carnival

We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Silent Carnival’s music video for their song “Arles” (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming album Somewhere, which is scheduled to be released on October 19, 2018 through Backwards Records. You can pre-order the album here.

The band commented on the song: “‘Arles’ is a reflection on past, on places that mark and change our life. That brief moment when you try to relive a feeling, but finding only blurred images.”

“Arles” is the first single of Somewhere, the third album from Silent Carnival, the sonic creature that Marco Giambrone raised since 2012. Recorded between January and February 2018 in the home-studio based in Cammarata (Sicily), Somewhere confirms band members and constant collaborators Alfonso De Marco, Caterina Fede and Andrea Serrapiglio adding new musicians like Stefano De Ponti, Luca Swanz Andriolo and Luca Serrapiglio.

Video director Corrado Lorenzo Vasquez commented:

The song on which Silent Carnival asked me to develop a visual work struck me immediately.

The mild and rarefied atmospheres have suggested me a non-narrative approach. A deconstructed story comes out, deprived of the linearity in which I tried to express the sound suggestions with the use of lights and shadows and blurring, hence the choice to mark again more shooting in black and white.

The happened absence, the parallel realities and the moments that overlap. The inspirations were multiple and the photographic ones are quite evident and recognizable I hope. The resources available were purely independent music, so we tried to compensate with imagination and creativity. Part of the scenes are the result of the synergic work of our small staff, for example the scene with the lace curtain was not part of the screenplay, but came out in a completely instinctive way from the interaction between the actress, Viktoria Vshivtseva, and the set designer Alessandra Garofalo. Both proved to be extremely precious to succeed even outside of their roles, it was a moment of mutual creative involvement, in short, moreover, on a track that we enjoyed listening to dozens of times during the editing, something very rare.
